Reflection on Website!

Year 10 Creative Media Short Film Production – Term 04 Mr Andrews

Task 5: Website and poster self-reflection and evaluation:

Part One: Discuss your feelings about the website, poster and promotional materials task:
1.    Are you satisfied with the final result?
I am satisfied with my final result.
2.    Did the website require more/less time than you originally thought?
It required less time than I originally thought.
3.    Would like to change any aspects of your final project (layout, links, images, colour scheme etc)?
I would’ve liked to add more detail and a better home page, instead of it being soo boring and basic.
4.    If you could start the project again what would you do differently?
I would make each website page more detailed and colourful.

Part Two: Respond to each of the following dot points (using complete sentences or paragraphs). You should include as much detail as possible in your responses.

1.    Discuss whether your website and poster have turned out the way you pictured them?
My poster turned out exactly how I had pictured it too. My website I would’ve liked the homepage to be more eye-catchy and detailed. I also would have liked my website to be a bit more creepy and fairytale like.
2.    Describe whether your site and poster clearly depicts the intended genre and describe some specific design techniques you have used to achieve this;
I have used black everywhere, to give an image of death and evil. I have also got creepy photos of the bad characters in the film. There are also images of creepy forests and words to scare the audience.
3.    Did you have all of the necessary resources to complete your site and poster or did you create new materials?
I had pretty much all of the necessary resources. It made it a lot easier to complete this assignment having my own laptop, as I did not need to get a hard drive and rely on bringing it every lesson to be able to do my work.
4.    Describe any problems or difficulties you encountered during the process. These may include; technical difficulties, corrupt or missing files, difficulty using the iWeb software, problems exporting files, sound or video etc;
I did not find any difficulties in this task, except from converting my poster off Photoshop on one computer onto another computer. I achieved this by making the image a smaller size, in order to be able to email it across.
5.    Clarify how you made use of planning, content-lists and the flowchart during the authoring process;
I drew a tree diagram as my planning for my website and then put that into words to explain each page. I had an image in my head of what I wanted my website to look like and tried my best to make that image realistic. I put all my planning onto one document and then converted that to blogger. I did all my planning before I did all the practical activities for this task.
6.    Clarify any time-management issues you encountered during the creative process and describe the steps you took to improve in this area;
I did not have any time-management issues for this task, as in the last task; I found it very difficult to complete everything because I ran out of time. I had learnt my lesson and managed to do a lot more during class on this task and therefore successfully completed it in time.
7.    Discuss whether you undertook adequate and detailed reflection throughout your project.
As I was completing my project, I was reflecting on what I was doing and if the presentation was adequate.
8.    Have you provided enough evidence to support your work? (Look back at your blogs/journals and think about whether it looks like a whole terms worth of work);
Yes, I have done many blog entries for my work to reflect on each task.

Practice Poster!

In class, in preparation for our assignment task, we were asked to make a practice poster on a pretend film. To do this, I used the programs, Photoshop and the internet. I found a random picture, word and quote, then used photoshop to make the right layout and put each piece together. I enjoyed doing this activity and found it very helpful for when we had to do this in our assignment.

Alice and Wonderland 2010

Posters for film:

Trailer for Alice in Wonderland: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYHAKSObKDo

Description: 19-year-old Alice returns to the magical world from her childhood adventure, where she reunites with her old friends and learns of her true destiny: to end the Red Queen's reign of terror.

Genre: Fantasy, Adventure, Computer Animation, Family Film, Sci-Fi

Style of Film: Surreal Fantasy

Actors: Staring Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter

Synopsis: Alice, an unpretentious and individual 19-year-old, is betrothed to a dunce of an English nobleman. At her engagement party, she escapes the crowd to consider whether to go through with the marriage and falls down a hole in the garden after spotting an unusual rabbit. Arriving in a strange and surreal place called "Underland," she finds herself in a world that resembles the nightmares she had as a child, filled with talking animals, villainous queens and knights, and furious bandersnatches. Alice realizes that she is there for a reason--to conquer the horrific Jabberwocky and restore the rightful queen to her throne.

Overall feel developed for the film’s website: The website for Alice in Wonderland brings you into a whole new world as soon as you click on the link. It has a tense, crisp and magical touch to it. The introduction of the film has suspenseful music, plays different parts of the film and shows objects in the film as different signs; such as the teacup lets us know that the website is loading. Once the intro has finished, whilst the border of the page is quite dark and spooky, a lot of colour is shown that has been saturated and quirky music begins to play, which helps to create an excited and interested mood. Lots of movement is happening at the same time on the website, which not only grabs the audiences attention, but keeps them entertained.

Tree Diagram for film:

Target Audience: The Target Audience for this website is 8-16 year old boys and girls interested in non-realistic objects and real life creatures, sci-fi and photo shopping. Mainly aimed at both genders with a wild and creative imagination.

Is the website effective in appealing to this intended audience: The website is very effective in appealing to this intended audience, as it brings you into a whole new, crazy world as soon as you click the link. It shows the same features as interests that the target audience has and is intended for the same age group.

Talk about what you like/dislike about the promotional material for each film. Why?
I like the promotional material for this film, as it really helps to describe and display a genre in your head of what the movie is about. It labels the film correctly and is very creative. I also like how there is lots of bright colours and the layout is easy to read and use.

Poster or advertisement for your film:

Colour Scheme: The colour scheme is very vibrant and exciting. It makes me feel tense and a bit fearful about the film. It’s very spooky and dark.

The focal point: where do your eyes focus and why? My eyes go straight to Alice, the main character, as she is wearing bright blue, compared to everyone else who are wearing quite dark colours.

Sense of Balance:  Is the advertisement balanced in terms of line, tone, layout?
The advertisement is quite bright in the centre, where as around the border of the poster and mainly at the top, it is quite dark and spooky. There are a mixture of elements and feelings that this poster can display.

Harmony: Do all of the advertisements elements (line, tone, colour, texture etc.) work well together to create harmony or a sense of completion? When looking at this poster, it is clear to me that it has been completed and creates a sense of harmony.

Unity: To help make the poster effective, there is use of a dominant colour scheme and high contrast to create unity.

What is the overall message being communicated about the film through the visual language in the poster or advertisement?
The overall message being communicated about the film through the visual language in the poster or advertisement is that the film is very imaginative and wild, with a mixture of darkness and happiness and sense of finding yourself again.
